Friends celebrating success! The House that Echelon Built, May 2009 Friends celebrating success! The House that Echelon Built, May 2009

We have a network of support groups around Britain. The people who join are former Global Village volunteers, people who already support us with donations - or simply people who want to do more to get rid of poverty housing around the world.

What do Friends groups do?

  • Build awareness of the needs of badly housed people around the world
  • Raise additional funds
  • Take part in the Global Village programme
  • Recruit other Global Village volunteers
  • Get to know other Friends groups in Britain
  • Make links with Habitat for Humanity projects around the world.

Friends groups can be any size. They choose their own leaders and plan their own events. Friends groups are independent, but Habitat for Humanity is ready with plenty of support - speakers, videos and other information and material to help them succeed.

Get involved!

Liverpool Habitat for Humanity has generously been given 2.2 acres of land on Kingsley Road by the Roman Catholic Church and will be building 32 homes with partner families and volunteers over the next 5 years.

LHFH has a comprehensive procedure for selecting families. There are three main criteria for qualification: to have a housing need and already live within the Liverpool City area (that is pay Council Tax to Liverpool City Council); to be willing to partner with LHFH to put 500 hours of "sweat equity" into building on the project and to have an income between £10 - £30k. Applicants who live, work or have a strong connection with the Liverpool 8 postcode area will be preferred.
